Bloody Maria!

“I’ve seen better days”
I said when you said you
Spent summer drunk and
Floating away at your
Mother’s a divorcée
On a lake in the suburbs

Sacrificing a limb I said
When you asked if I had rituals planned
For the full blue moon coming overhead
I’m maroon, bloody, burgundy and red

As I wait for new brakes
To get me upstate
I feel my lungs
Sing Bloody Maria!

Prettiest morning
At the porthole
Before the tourism starts
Useless in Eustis
Doing dishes
Stoned before dark
Icicles of winter and
Pop signals on the radio charts
Sing Bloody Maria!

I Bought you a candle
When your jacket tore on the
Plastic of my 1990 Volvo
But you knew it was for Christmas

The car you judged me for
The rusty box and the Mercury Girl
Now I’m taking her to the airport
It may be today or it may be forever

As I wait for new brakes
To get me upstate
I feel my lungs
Sing Bloody Maria!

Prettiest morning
At the porthole
Before the tourism starts
Useless in Eustis
Doing dishes
Stoned before dark
Icicles of winter and
Pop signals on the radio charts
Sing Bloody Maria!

It’s our first year
Is your head still spinning?
Like the earth dear
Our days are just beginning

As I wait a new day
The sun is hidden
I weigh options
You’re in every one
